We were asked to choose an animal and write about what it might want to say to us as a human...this is what I came up with.

The Song of the Platypus

Yes, I have a tail like a beaver.

Of that I am perfectly aware.

But really, people? Puh-leeze!

There’s no need to laugh point and stare!

Oh yes, you noticed!

How observant you are!

I also have a bill like a duck,

and yes, it does get me far.

This may strike you as rather profound

but I have feelings too!

I’m sick and tired of being the object of ridicule

here in this zoo!

So, please, people, please!

Next time you come around

look elsewhere, and I’m sure you’ll fine

that there’s lots of other odd things to be found!
