A/N: This basically is a flashback story. Most of the parts are of the past. So, the flashbacks have been emboldened to avoid confusion. Also the parts between the past and the present have been separated with image breaks.

Promises... Why do people make promises when they seldom keep it? Like many others Tyler promised me several things and he also promised me that he won’t ever break them.

“Tyler put me down.” I squealed, hitting him on the back.

“No first say that you are sorry for calling me dumb and then say I’m the smartest person you’ve ever met.” Tyler told me as he continued to carry me on his back towards the sofa.

“No,” I don’t end hitting his back,”I won’t ever say that.”

“Well then bear the consequences.” Ty dumped me on the sofa and tickled me until I started crying due to the uncontrollable laughter.

He stopped all of a sudden and kissed me until we both gasped for air.

“I love you Addie. I fucking love you and I’m never gonna leave you.” He murmured against my lips and kissed me again.

The trees whizz past us by the window of the cab. I and Cassie; my baby girl, are on our way to meet Tyler. We have been meeting him at the same place for the past seven years; a tradition that our small little family has been following religiously. As always Cassie is excited to meet her daddy and I’m anything but happy....

“Ty stop,” I giggled. The taxi driver was glancing at us through the rear view mirror, clearly enjoying the show which we were putting on in the back seat of his cab.

“Mmm...Hmm... But you don’t want me to, right?” Tyler murmured, his teeth were nibbling my ear. Quite unwillingly, I put my hands on his chest and shoved him away whilst trying to give him a stern look. He just chuckled and pulled me closer to him, his strong muscled arm around my shoulder. I sighed; the alcohol consumed previously at the party was seriously showing its effects now as I could feel the light buzz in my head.

“Ad, wake up baby. We are home,” I opened my droopy eyes to see Tyler was leaning over me, shaking me gently. I put my arms out to him as I gave him a sheepish grin; a sign meaning that ‘pick me up’. Tyler grinned as he paid the cabbie and picked me up bridal style and my arms went around his neck on their own accord. I felt totally contented as my head rested in the crook of his neck and I inhaled his sweet vanilla like scent.

“Ad, do you mind opening the door? My hands are kinda full.”  Tyler smiled down at me. My hands reached around to the back pocket of his denims to pull out OUR house keys with a goofy bunny key chain. Tyler had a fetish for weird-looking key chains. But I wasn’t complaining when it was attached to our house keys.

Tyler leaned forward so I could unlock the door. He kicked the door open with his knee and strode through the threshold with me still in his arms. Without looking backwards, he again used his leg and closed the door with a thud and then strode towards our bedroom. I was back to Neverland when he gently laid me on the bed and kissed my forehead.

“Addie, you know, I would always be there to carry you home, I promise.”

“Mom?” My 7-year-old daughter’s concerned voice broke my reverie. I wipe my tears hastily and manage to give her a wry smile. I pay the cabbie and mutter a thank you to him, my voice hoarse with sadness. As I lace my fingers with Cassie’s and walk to the door, my heart floods with pain. My hands tremble as I unlock the door with a key attached to a goofy bunny key chain. It’s been a year since we came back here but I open the door to find everything as it was eight years ago, only a thin sheet of dust covering the furniture.

“Adrianna, where have you kept the candles honey? I can’t seem to find them in the kitchen as you said.” Tyler shouted as he unceremoniously rummaged through the drawers in the kitchen.

“Ty if I come there and find those just where I told you they’d be, then remember you would be washing the dishes tonight.” I replied, irritated that he couldn’t find such small things without my help. I walked upto the kitchen to find my husband’s sexy butt stuck up in the air and his head hidden inside the drawer, trying to find the scented candles that were his favorite.

I tapped him on the butt and signaled him to move away. My hands pulled out a box from the same drawer Tyler was rummaging through. I handed him the box, my eyebrows raised as he opened the box and found the candles lying in there.

“So I’m doing the dishes tonight?” Tyler smiled his boyish grin at me.

“Yep,” I answered chirpily and leaned in to kiss him. I couldn’t ever resist his boyish grins even if I was angry on Tyler.

“Addie, without you I would be so bloody helpless. And you look hot when you are angry.” He again smiled that deathly smile.

“That won’t get you outta doing the dishes’ mister,” I laughed at his pout face and puppy dog eyes.

“Still you know my puppy dog eyes shall always make you smile.” He flashed me his signature smirk.

“And Addie I promise, even if I’m not good at helping you finding candles or something else; I’ll always be there when you need me”

I stand frozen in the kitchen, my eyes drinking in the sight of our home of bygones greedily. Tears flow in rivulets down my cheek... Cassie passes by me and into the kitchen to get the scented candles. She knew the drill having seen me doing it for the last seven years. She pulls open the drawer where the candles have been kept from all these years. Unlike Tyler she knows where to find stuff.

Cassie tugs at my hand, prodding me to follow her out. My kiddo surely knows what to do. I lock the door behind us unconsciously and we walk down the path that leads us to the florist.

“Ad come on now!” Ty dragged me down the street while I was whining like a two-year-old-kid that was throwing a tantrum.

“Just this one last stop and then we’ll go home.” Tyler tried convincing me.

“But my legs won’t listen to me and walk. They are soooooo tired.” I whined.

“Okay then. I’ll give ya a piggy back. Hop on,” Ty leaned on his knees, his back towards me. Glad at the prospect of not walking, I jumped onto his back. My legs wrapped themselves around his waist and he supported my weight by placing his hands underneath them.  My hands were wound around his neck loosely, without a fear of falling. Tyler placed me on the ground carefully when we reached the florist’s; Kara’s flowers.

“And what are we doing here?” I asked, confusion marring my features.

Without answering my question, Tyler pulled me into the shop. Leaving me at the entrance, he went over to old lady who was making a bouquet of black roses. Tyler greeted the lady and bought a bunch of white lilies tied with a white ribbon from her. After he paid and thanked the lady, he made his way towards me and handed me the flowers. I smiled and kissed him on the cheek.

“Why lilies though?” curiosity laced my voice as I asked Tyler.

“Coz white lilies are my favorite and they kinda remind me of you.”

“Oh, really?” I smirked at him.

“Yeah, but I love you more than white lilies Addie.”

Kara smiles at us we enter her flower shop. Without saying a word, she hands me a bunch of white lilies tied with a white ribbon. The fragrance of the lilies tug at the chords of my heart making me feel nostalgic. I smile back at Kara and pay her for the beautiful flowers. I and Cassie walk out of the florist’s with our hands firmly clasped together. Whilst walking to our final destination, we pass by the park.

“Ad, how can anyone be scared of swings? They are harmless.” Tyler laughed at my fear of swings.

“I do not know Ty. I am scared of them and falling of them.” I replied.

“Come’n now Ad! I’m here so you don’t need to be afraid of falling down the swing.” Tyler pushed me towards the swing. He sat me down on it even though I was reluctant to do so.

“And what if I fall down?” I asked Tyler in a small voice.

“I won’t let you.” Tyler whispered softly.

“But somehow if I fall then?” My voice conveyed the fear I felt.

“Then Addie I’ll be always there to pick you up.” Tyler looked me in the eye as he answered. His voice soothed my tremors.

Cassie squeezes my fingers when she noticed my faraway look. I smile down at her and squeeze her fingers back, silently thanking her for her daughterly concern. Her smile reminds me of Tyler’s. They share the same green orbs which light up when they smile. Her smile encases me in warmth and the lost sense of protection is momentarily brought back when I gaze into her eyes.

“Ty, I love your eyes very much.” Tyler and I were lying on the couch, lazing on a Sunday afternoon. One of his arms was draped around my shoulders and the other was entwined with mine. I looked at our intertwined fingers as he played with them.  My head laid on his chest could hear the soft drumming of his heart and that brought peace to my mind.

“Hmm? But I thought you like blue eyes more?” He teased me.

“I do like blue eyes more than green ones but your eyes hold so much warmth and they give me a sense of being protected.  So I might like blue eyes but I love your green ones.” I stated in a soft, vulnerable tone.

“Addie,” Tyler lifted my chin with his pointer finger making me look straight into his eyes, “I will always protect you, no matter what.” His voice held a promise forever.

My legs carried me to the gate painted in black. I push it open and Cassie skips away to the grave in the middle of the graveyard. She places the lilies and the scented candles on the grave whilst sitting beside it and says, “Dad, I miss you. Mom tells me that you love me a lot even though you don’t come to see me dance at my ballet classes. She says that you are watching me from up there and that you’ll be always proud of me. You know, mom misses you a very much. She doesn’t tell me that but I’ve seen her looking at your pictures and crying silently. She always puts these white lilies in the vase because you like them. And you know what? I love my green eyes coz mom says that I got ‘em from you. I miss you......”

My mind blocks out the rest of Cassie’s words as my vision blurs again with salty water droplets. I sit down and pull Cassie into my lap and hug her tight; afraid that I would lose her like Tyler. All the while my heart aches and just keeps on repeating, “You broke your promises Tyler. You broke all of them.”
