I am a star,

Or at least that's what they say;

Those who love me,

And wouldn't have me any other way.

But I am not among them,

Those who love me;

For I am my biggest critic,

I know I walk imperfectly.

I am a star,

Shining bright,

Amongst countless Others

Of a more radiant light.

My relentless efforts

Produce only a slight glimmer;

And compared to the Great,

My light only shines dimmer.

I am a star

Whose only dream,

Is to prove to the World

That I am worth something.

I may not free despairing slaves

Or stop wars with my benevolence,

But I would be forever contented

If I knew I had made a difference.
