The bird could not pass freely through the bars of its cage;

The viper however, could enter and exit as it pleased.

Here I sit, upon a throne of ash and rust.

In my hands, a collection of forgotten dreams has piled high

overflowing beyond the boundaries of my lifeless fingertips, too many times have I succumbed to promises bittersweet, dripping like honey-

No, like venom, rolling forth off of forked tongue readily and endlessly.

 Endlessly

 as is the stream that spills from my hand, tumbling

down

A pool forms at my feet

the murky depths swirl round and round, hypnotizing

inviting

Dare I accept the invitation?

Perhaps, perhaps not; none but I can say for sure.

my waters appear as they ever were;

Still, glass perfectly mirroring all who look in.

what lies beneath a perfect storm,

biding its time, watching, waiting

the tiger paces its cage

Soon an unlucky fool will cut free the bars

Soon the viper will strike
