I'd rather not

Explain why

I buy myself underwear that no-one gets to see,

Or, explain why

I still continue

To take my birth control pill

I'd rather not

Explain why

I still insist upon

Shaving my legs, when I only ever wear pants

Perhaps because

I'm hoping

That somehow you'll notice that

The green on my eyelids matches

The wisp of spring leaves on my wrists

Perhaps I'm hoping

That it won't

Take me making a fool out of myself

To get you to like me of your own accord,

Without the manufacturing

Of some false image of me

No. What I'm hoping is,

That underneath it all,

You'll understand the Gollum in me

And not

Have to learn

To live with it
