I am still an unfurled leaf in this citied landscape;

It is too difficult to yet show my greens

Before the ungathered crowd.

It is grey, this bricked place;

There are trees, but they are old,

Their branches slip past the built-over skyline.

I am only a leaf, cold,

I have other leaves to keep me company;

They have other skies to reach for.

The veins hang tight around my knees

As I curl; who will give me the words,

Who will give me the means to reach out and open?
