I am chasing the orange canvas

Everything behind me black as the sun disappears out of view

I think of summer - I think of flip-flops and ice-creams,

Long walks along the beach, the ocean crashing…

cars beep

Their lights like a stream of ants crawling past me on the other side of the road.

Some eager, others happy just to be on their way home

and there beyond the darkness the stars begin to show

just as clear as they did this time last year… I’m sure.

Pink lines break up the orange, purple where black pushes on through,

Trees stand like bodies, arms waving as the ants pass by.

Airplanes overhead flashing and catching my eye.

I think of bubble baths and candles,

Tangy lemon zest, Coco butter and Versace’s Crystal Noir…

My feet in my slippers…

A cup of chai…

And wet slobbery kisses as I reach my front door.
