As promises are made right from the start,
Addiction becomes the soul of one's heart.

Promising to provide enjoyment and pleasure,
yet delivering despair, guilt and nightmares.

Power and courage is how one is lured in,
Addiction promises comfort and friends.

But helplessness and fear soon arrive,
Creating pain, loneliness and a want to die.

Love, hope, faith, and truth are disavowed,
Since hate, hurt and lies are only allowed.

Deadly and seductive, a destroyer of all
The addict doesn't know it until he falls.

Destroying everyone who lives the lie
Chasing the bump for that one last high.

A thief of reality, not to be shown
Until the addict awakens alone.

Addiction can be disguised as beauty,
But in reality it is evil and ugly!
