Just a short story about a young boy who preferred friends at school to the abuse at home and tries to find a way out.

This is the story of a young boy called James, who was not happy at home.
He was a lot happier at school so he decided to think of school
as his home and home as a place he had to go to do his homework.
James would write stories on what his parents were fighting about,
and who threw what at who, how many empty bottles and cans
he could find in the house, how many times he was hit or shouted at
before he was sent to bed.He would  then cry the night away
waiting for the morning to come, so he could go back to school,
see his friends, talk to the other children, play and have dinner together.

James could cope with home as long as he had school to help him get through,
but one day he got a real shock, the school told him they were closing,
just for the summer holidays. They explained that he would have to stay at home
for the time the school was closed.  He didn't like this idea at all,
but of course there was no option, and so for the next few days he had
to put up with the fighting, throwing, shouting, and being alone in his room,
where he couldn't even hope for the morning and school.

Then one day, sad, lonely and sick of crying and getting shouted at,
James thought he would run away and try to find a school that was open,
and would let him in.  Off he went, wandering the streets looking
for a school, any school. He really hadn't gone very far but he was
already  lost and very hungry.  It  wasn't very long before he
was spotted by a policeman, who after talking to him for a few minutes,
called for a police car, which took James to the nearest police station,
where he told a policewoman that he was looking for a school,
because he didn't want to go home. The policewoman explained
to him, that because he was so young, they have no option but to take
him home. James asked if he could stay here at the police station but
she told him he could not.  We only keep criminals here, people who
do very bad things, and break the law.  He was then taken home by police car,
and delivered safely to his parents. James was back to square one.

Suddenly, alone in his room once more, James had a brilliant idea.
I will go out and do something really bad, then the police will come
and take me away, and because I am so young, they will put me
in a special school where they won't let me go home,
and thus, a criminal is born.

A good story, very original and carrying a subtle political message.

Somehow this story seems very sadly true or possible. Loved it, thanks!
