As I walk in the house she’s there as always, a smile on her face and a kiss. She can’t seem to hide her obvious excitement at seeing me, and what can I do but smile back.

I sit on the couch mundane tasks to do. I check the snail mail and peruse the email, all the while she sits patiently waiting for me, content in being there absorbing the warmth just being next to me.

It seems like we’ve done this a thousand times before, like it’s deja vu all over again.

She seems to need to touch me to believe I’m really there; I have to smile again as I peek out of the corner of my eye to see her watching me, patiently.

Finally, she lays her head on my shoulder and I know what she wants.

“Fine I say,” in feigned exasperation, “come on Pixie girl, help me find your leash then!”
