Who is that girl

That vivacious girl

The one who skips

And sings

The one who smiles

With the infectious laugh

The one everyone loves

And the joy that she brings

But behind her personality

The clothes, the makeup, the hair

Lies the truth of her soul

An angel that lost her wings

False confidence and insecurity

Are etched into her face

Her eyes are glassy windows

With only a single tear that stings

Feeling trapped inside

A mask she can’t take off

A permanent seal on life

To her fear she clings

Afraid to let go

To be herself, be free

Letting time slip through her hands

Restrained to moving by strings

Society, such a burden

The mind stirring, pounding

Kept awake by doubt

Head laced with evil tidings

Only one want

Only one need

To be embraced by acceptance

To be free of reasonings

So that girl

That vivacious girl

The one who skips

And sings

Is chained and bound

By heavy weights

Condemned to silence

And pained by her longings
