I put my hand on his chest and he cupped my cheek. He leaned in and met his lips half way. His lips were soft and warm against mine.
My stomach was filled with butterflies. I thought I was going to explode that moment from joy. But sadly he pulled away.
He kissed my forehead and said, "Bye, see you tomorrow." Eric winked at me and my inside turned to jelly.
That summer we had sex and it only made our relationship stronger. We started college together at UCLA in the fall.
We were inseparable. We had fights, but they were few and never really relationship threatening.
We are both 23 and living together. He just got back from work. I walked up and kissed him. Eric didn't respond to the kiss at all.
"Marie, we have to talk. I just don't see us going anywhere. I think we should breakup." Eric said, ripping a hole into my world.
“What, but why?" I asked on the verge of tears.
"I don't love you any more," Eric said flatly. I stopped breathing and my lips were trembling. But I held back the tears. I slapped him across the face and grabbed my purse. I ran out the door not looking back.
Sunlight streamed into my eyes. I woke up to what is now morning. I looked through my purse till I found my phone. There are still no new messages.
I wanted to throw my phone. I mean he didn't even explain why. It was just out of the blue I don't love you. Who does that, other than my Eric. No, he's not my Eric any more he's just Eric, another face in the crowd. Okay, even I know that's bull shit.
I sat there, trying to talk myself out of loving him. I heard yelling. A man in a button up white shirt, black pants, and a black backpack was the one yelling. He had familiar longish black hair.
I knew that man all too well. I knew that if he turned around, he would have big black eyes. I knew the sleeves would be half way rolled up. I knew that on his left wrist is a silver bracelet, I got him for his 16th birthday. I didn't know what he was doing here.
Eric turned around. "Marie, Marie." he yelled, spotting me. He ran toward me. I was sitting criss cross applesauce on a grass planter edge.
Eric stood right in front of me. I looked at the ground, because I just couldn't meet his eyes. "Marie, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean a word of what I said. I didn't mean to hurt you. I don't want to hurt you now or ever. Please give me another chance."
"Why did you say those things?" I asked.
"I was talking with mike and he just brought up some stuff. It just made me mad and question everything. I know I shouldn't have listened to him. As soon as you left I regretted what I said. I'm sorry and I love you." Eric said.
"Eric, I don't love you anymore." I said flatly, still not meeting his eyes.
He said one word, "Bullshit," he grabbed my face, one hand when to my cheek and the other to my waist. Eric pulled my face to his.
Our lips met gently. He waited for me to make the decision of deepening the kiss. I couldn't help myself. I kissed him back. He pulled back too soon for my liking.
Eric kneeled down and pulled out a little blue box. "Marie Sung I swear to love you the rest of my life. You are my best friend and I love everything about you. I promise never to hurt you again. You are my everything. Will you marry me?" Eric said, opening the box. Inside the box was a simple similes ring on a silver band. It was beautiful.
"Yes," I said, my voice shaking. He stood up and slipped the ring on my finger.
He kissed me, and then pulled back slightly, so our foreheads were still touching. He said, "I promise I will make this up to you."
I pulled his mouth down to mine. "When we get home, I'm going to make you spend hours making it up to me," I said seductively.
Eric smiled and kissed me. I wrapped my legs around his waist and he picked me up. My fiancé started to carry me toward our house.
