... And They Said It Would Last Now And Forever

Welcome and good evening, my name is Barty Brightlight,
and I’ll be your unnamed narrator for tonight.

This is Georgie Green Eyes, watch as she sings herself
lovesick lullabies, and paints her nails in amethyst,
then curls her hands into a fist, and
trusts it through the mirror
so that now it does not shimmer
and it’s as broken as her heart.

She smears herself with lipstick,
(when she thinks of him) she feels sick
because he’s a million miles
away, her constant reminder that
she once knew how to smile,
the scars left from her happiness.
Now all that’s left is this mess.

That girl with nails of amethyst,
that pretty perfect pessimist,
she says she’s pretty from the neck down
and no one sees her from the neck up
where the makeup runs down off her cheek –
she’s weak – and she’s plain run out of luck,
as no one see’s her frown from the waist down
when she’s hanging from her neck up.

And this is Benny Blue Eyes, watch as he sings himself
lovesick lullabies. He loves those nails of amethyst,
that pretty perfect pessimist, but
she’s only half as perfect in his dreams
as she was when she smiled in person,
and that’s a million miles away it seems.

You see, he’d still kill to dream of her tonight,
and if he could take her breath away
he’d do it every single day,
and collect them in a jar for her
so he could bring her back to life,
if only she weren’t a million miles away.

Now all he wants to do is wake up and forget,
but that kiss they stole won’t let him let
it go, though no one sees him from the waist up,
they swear he’s handsome when in the dark,
but it doesn’t matter anymore, when
he’s plain run out of luck,
because no one loves him from the waist down
when he’s hanging from his neck up.

So it was written, so it came to pass.
They both went down together,
bleeding hearts now and forever.
