How Can Love Be Called A Sin?
So how's it hanging, God, up there?
Are you tucked up nice and warm?
In a blanket made of prejudice
as you cook up one big storm.
If you only knew the wrongs you've done,
Aren't I meant to be your son?
Don't tell me that it's hereditary
or else I'd find an 'Eve,'
don't tell me love breaks natural law,
that's not what you believe.
You're supposed to love us through and through,
no matter what we say or do.
So why can't I be free to care?
I thought we had free will.
Why must I be prosecuted
like those who choose to kill?
Is it really such an awful thing?
Just think of all the love it brings
for a man to lie with another man,
our love brings us closer to you.
Or at least that's what we thought at first,
but I guess we hadn't a clue.
We're punished by your vengeful hand
for the love that you can't stand.
Yet I thought it was love that you stood for,
'God is love' so it's not a sin.
I'm the modern day Samaritan,
but the neighbour that can't win.
So no, Father, no, I don't feel 'ill,'
and I hope you burn in Hell.
We're human beings like the rest
but you say we don't belong.
So I hope you'll help me understand,
you decide what's right and wrong.
Tell me, oh 'great' diplomat,
I love him, what's wrong with that?
