Summary

A poem rather embarrassingly inspired by the Aiden song of the same name and, less embarrassingly, the Colour Purple and Martin Sherman's Bent: always a good mix. Be yourself.

Teenage Queen

Walking in this savage world,
the other boys cause you distress,
they call to you, 'what kind of freak
would ever wear a dress?'

Well sticks and stones may break your bones
but words will break your heart.
No more I say! You're not a 'fag,'
you're a perfect work of art.

So practise turning with your cheek,
and the swivel on that heel,
they don't do glitter and they're oh so bitter,
so they'll never know how good you feel.

The world will be your catwalk, honey,
they'll talk the talk that you look hideous,
but then you'll turn, say "I may be ugly,
but I'll be damned if I'm not fabulous."
