The wild wind rips the leaves from the trees

Yellow and red tumble 'cross the lawn

Rain falls heavy on the cat's head
as she's crouching cramped under the veranda

Dark days of dwindeling light, as cold
is calling snow to come

Summer's chirping birds have gone

Flown back to the warmer breezes

Left us grounded here to bear what earth
now will bestow on us

November, December of rain and darkness

January, February of snow and coldness

The snowstorms of March

Until eons from now April brings a promise
of warmth and light again
