Starve the enemy,

That was the plan.

Simply stop their trade.

The main target was Germany,

But also the Ottomans;

The infamous naval blockade.

Britain, ruler of the sea,

Said that foodstuffs were contraband

And that the North Sea was now a war zone.

Conflicts between fleets

Resulted in the Battle of Jutland

Which ended with few going home.

The effects of the blockade were quite severe,

With thousands of civilians dying.

But, do those people matter?

It became very clear

That the blockade led the Allies to victory,

So who cares if some civillians had a batter?

The infamous blockade,

In both its mehod and purpose,

Was a ruthless strategy.

It was so inhumane,

As well as heartless.

It was a step too far, even for victory.
