I sat back in the car, trying to calm my nerves. I must have looked like  deer in the headlights. As I gripped the steering wheel, watching my knuckles turn white, I saw the sign that I've been waiting for for five years. It told me that I was going to  the exact city that I've only dreamt of. So many times of fantasizing, I'm finally going.
It was raining. The very street below my tires was being swept of all of the debris and dirt. Just seeing the clean black asphalt was nice, it
being clear of imperfections. It shone as the sun came out behind the clouds for one moment, then hiding back behind the clouds. The reflective surface caught my attention, but as someone honked their horn at me on the two lane road I came snapping back to reality.
I looked at the small slip of paper that I had written yesterday in my dorm. It said his address and the way to get there. I was right around the
corner. One more right turn and everything is going to be different. I've craved this forever. How can it really be true? Am I dreaming?
I took the left turn, my FJ Cruiser splashing both sides of the road and drowning the grass. I turned my head to see the correct numbers on
the door and a car was in the driveway. I drove up on the side of the road and parked a couple inches away from the curb. The grass was very green and newly cut. The house was a two story dream. It was two in the afternoon and the lights were on in the living room, it was a good sign. So, I stepped up to the big wooden door and almost knocked on it, but just as my fist was about to hit the door I stopped. I felt myself freeze. What if everything doesn't go as planned? What if he doesn't want me here. What if I walked in on a bad time? You know what? Forget it.
I knocked on the door before my brain could tell me otherwise. A young lady opened the door who I remembered as his sister. She tilted
her head at me and paused, trying to figure out why I am there.
\"Willow,\" she said it more of a statement than a question. I was surprise she remembered me. This is the first time she has seen me in
person.
\"Hey Krys,\" I responded with a smile. She smiled too and leaned against the doorjamb, looking curious. She asked, \"I didn't think I would see you for a couple more years. Does Paul know you're here?\"
 \"No actually, he doesn't. Is he home?\"
\"No, mom texted him and told him to go to the store. He will be home soon though.\"
\"Oh... So I'll go drive around a bit. I'll come back later.\" I really didn't want to come back. I hoped he was home. My heart seemed to take a misstep.
\"I swear Willow. You are not going to 'drive around.' Come inside and wait,\" she said scolding me. I smiled and stepped through the door.
The time spent on the couch talking was very nice. It was refreshing to hear old stories and tell some of my own. We spoke of how things were and any new plans. How my trip was and how I pulled off not telling Paul. I has smiled and said that all I had to do was tell him I was busy for that day cleaning so I could drive without texting and dying. Krys has smiled back at me and we went into a conversations of what I wanted to do. I told her I wanted to surprise Paul. She decided it was an amazing idea and she let me walk around the house, looking for a good spot to sit in for a while.
I made my way around the house. I had already seen the living room and I would have picked to just sit on the couch until he got home, but it was slightly cliche, so I decided against it. I walked into the kitchen and smiled at some old pictures on the wall. The kitchen was very quaint and there was a lot of white. Most of everything was white.
Paranoid of touching something and setting off the hint that I was here, I headed up the steps, hoping to find his bedroom. I looked at the five doors in the hallway and froze, glancing to the left and right at more photos of Paul and his little sister. A smile rose to my face and I turned to see one of the five doors slightly open at the end of the hall. The door opened smoothly and it revealed a small bedroom. There was a queen sized bed infront of me and the covers were haphazardly thrown on it; he was probably in a rush to get to his university this morning. A laptop was closed on the bed. Moving it aside, I sat on the creaky bed and looked around. There was a wooden dresser in the corner of the room with a TV set on top of it. The closet to me left, next to the door, was closed, but there were clothes infront of it in a hamper. Behind his bed there was a gaming poster and a small origami animal that I had made him. There were also a couple soda cans and water bottles cluttering up the desk. I involuntarily smiled at the common-ness of the situation as I heard Krys yell to me from downstairs, \" Willow!! He's home!\"
My eyes shot wide open as I tried to figure out what to do. I decided to play it simple and lay back on the bed, kicking off my shoes and waiting for him to come up to his room. I heard Paul say hello to his sister then ask her why there was a random car infront of the house. Krys answered that someone next door myst have bought a new car and they didn't have enough room on their driveway. He mumbled something because I couldn't hear what he responded. I did hear him walk into the kitchen, probably going to put the groceries away. After much crashing and several giggles from me, I heard him ascend the staircase. I tried to breathe as though nothing was different. I wasn't going to see the love of my life after five years of struggling and waiting. Life had finally turned around.
The door opened just as quietly as it had for me and Paul stepped in the room, throwing a bag from Gamestop down before looking up around the room. Just as he looked up his eyes went to me laying down on his bed. He took a deep breath and hastily collected his thoughts, jumping onto the bed as it made a loud screech in protest. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his shoulders in a tight hug. He breathed into my hair for a second, probably trying to find words, then he let me go, looking me straight in my eyes. He whispered softly, \"And now my dream has come true.\"
