A poem I wrote for my boyfriend during Business class because I missed them.

How can everything go on

As normal when

My whole life has been

Shaken up like

A juice carton you’re about to open

There’s a great

Chasm torn through

My mind and

Your face is all

I see

My heart beats

Fast,

Every thump bruising

Your name

Into my chest.

Your laugh

Echoes

In my ears and

Your smile

Burns itself into my eyes.

I wonder what

It would

Be like

To never

See you again

The idea is something

That

I cannot

Fathom because our lives

Are so tightly coiled together

One day my

Arms will wrap themselves

Firmly around

Your warm body and

Hold you close

But for now,

My dear,

Let us merely

Correspond by

Written word.

A message, blinking brightly

In my dark room.

A letter –

Battered but intact –

Landing on your doorstep.

Occasionally a

Shaky image of

You

On my screen as we struggle

To think of what to say.

Nonetheless,

We enjoy it.

A little awkward but,

Underneath it all, it’s purely

Us.
