LOVE AS TRULY BELOVED

Where in the night doth my true love lye? In a cloud? Or a star? Afar off or Nye?

Shallst thou visit whenst I slumber? That light wouldst take thee lo asunder?

Wouldst thou perhaps beckon by will? Whisper entreaties mine soul not nil?

I know not where nor know not how. Mine best wish truest ere it be now.

Come forth thou now in dreams or nay. Yet liltingly drop thine kisses I pray.

Keep not mine belinger long in waite. To mine longing thine perishable haste.

Doth not thine own spirit truest express? Thine own longing for sheer happiness?

Nay wilst I wonder, ponder nor pray. For here thou now art forever to stay.

Truly mine true love is truly mine own. Deeply, faithfully his heart seeds sown.

Without thine kiss of dewey sprinkle. Wouldest I wither, fade and wrinkle.

Thou couldest not away also remain. Made one for the other no refrain.

For canest one stop the dew or the rain? From kissing a flower to flow to her vein?

Tis I the rose who calls mine beloved. Mine everything truly is mine all beloved.

And not I alone am in love with the rain. Sharest I must even it bringest me pain.
