The Twilight World

She races around the garden

her face filled up with fun

she talks to the butterflies

and the flowers, every one

to the roses and the daisies

she sings a little tune

she smiles up at the stars

and waves up at the moon.

We stand and watch in wonder

as she skips in front of us

she inhabits her own little world

a world free from hate or fuss

although she's reached 12 today

she cannot write or read

she never will talk properly

or know what she really needs

She comes up and cuddles us

she is so very strong

but like so many times before

she doesnt stay for long

she's off to bed very soon

to rest herself for school

she may be different to us

but she surely is no fool.

She is happy in her world

and who are we to say

that she is not much better there

than we are every day

theres is only love in her world

there is no hurt or pain

no broken hearts, only joy

just sunshine, never rain.

We know she's only lent to us

and with us she can't stay

we've been so blessed to watch her

in her twilight world each day.
