Blazing and Burning Desire

Mandy, a child with an awkward desire
To gather up sticks and set them on fire
The flames reflect in her eyes while she gazes
What is it in fire that Mandy’s amazed with

Her mother has told her she mustn’t be rotten
Good girls play with dolls with dresses of cotton
That fire can cause a terrible flash
But Mandy has turned all her dolls into ash

Now go to your room her mother said
And Mandy threw herself on her bed
Crying her eyes out on the bed’s patches
She remembered she’d hidden a packet of matches

She jumped of the bed and down on the floor
She counted the boards on the floor from the door
From one to seven she counted out loud
When seven was reached she kneeled down proud

A secret she had that no one was told
That under the floorboards like hidden gold
She’d stashed away her buried goods
Of matches and fuel and flammable woods

The urge of flames that lived inside her
Had grown and grown since mother denied her
The fuel went all up and down the walls
And on to the bed and cupboard and draws

Her room was soaked the stench was frightful
But Mandy’s mood was so delightful
The fumes attacked her lungs she sickened
But no, to late the match was stricken

The flames feed quickly on her arms and her chest
The fire took hold of her best cotton dress
The flames went all up and down the walls
And on to the bed and cupboard and draws

Mandy just stood there and uttered no sound
As she watched the inferno that framed all around
She felt no pain she was one with the fire
She was one with her blazing and burning desire
