but instead of knives and guns

it was pounded out on typewriters.

tendrils of intellectual smoke

poured out of the barracks, and into

our murky heads, where it simply

evaporated even further, just like

our last shred of delirium was

secretly buried warm each night.

yet this battle is not an angelic

struggle, for it shall succumb to

the excruciating ceaseless assault

of neurons versus themselves.
