All criticism welcome - in fact, much appreciated. This is basically 'to my parents' (as you might have guessed from the title), and mainly focuses on when I was a goth - ex-goth now, but I still belong to the dark side ;)

To my parents, I apologise,

for not being a normal child.

It was fate which drew this moth to a flame

A flame so dark and intriguing it's discarded,

Disapproved of, spat upon,

But it holds me still.

I listened to the dark beats in my cavern,

Thump. Thump. Thump.

You compain about the figures on the covers,

'Is THAT supposed to be singing?'

It's too dark, too grim, not right.

Ever since I owned a brain, I knew

this was for me.

I couldn't push away the figure clawing at my window,

It's pale face glowing in the moonlight,

two single fangs, a claw, red eyes.

It wanted me as much as I wanted it.

So, yes, I made you cringe in my boots and my lace,

With my red lips and pale face,

I was special you'd say, it's all a phase you'd say,

While I was pushed and laughed at,

A recluse, dreaming ofthe scream queens of the night -

Elvira, Lily, Sally.

To my parents, I do not apologise,

for being who I was. Who I am.
