take my heart

with you

when you go

hold it close

at night

when you can feel

the cold

where I should be

kiss it

when you miss

my lips

for they used to cover yours

with reassuring words

touch it

when you can’t forget

my touch

the way our fingers

the way our bodies

fit together

stab it

when you remember

the way you walked away

the way you left me

paralyzed with disbelief

on some sandy plane

of your defiance

speak to it

when your ears tingle

from the words

that you don’t hear

the words

of care

of safety

look at it

drink it with your eyes

when you miss

the way my glance

covered you in warmth

always made you

feel welcome

chased away the vulnerability

press it to yours

when you are afraid

when you remember

you were never alone

because when you were scared

so was i

question it

since I always had the answers

to the questions you held

and you had the solutions

to all my problems

love it

when you can’t help

but miss

the warmth in your chest

it should still be there

but you walked away

you walked away
