The moonlight reflects off the clear, cold water and sends chills down my spine. The fire that dances between us makes her blue eyes light up like fireflies in the dead of night. The light, summer breeze warms the air around us, making me want to stay here with her forever.
“Why did you want me to come down here?” I ask softly and look at her. Her brunette hair moves around with the lightness of the breeze. I can see the tears forming in her eyes.
“Ethan… I… I have to leave.” She finally says, and looks at me.
“What do you mean you’re leaving? We’ve been together for two years. You can’t leave...”
“No, no, no… I’m not leaving you.” She moved to my side and took my hand.
“I’m moving back to the states. My grandmother died a few days ago, and I’ve decided to move back there to stay close to my family. But we don’t have to leave each other, Ethan. We can still be a couple.” She looks up at me. Leave? So quickly? Do I mean nothing to her?
“Sinead… Are you serious?” I stand up. “Are you really going to do this to me?”
“I have no choice, Ethan.” She also stands. “I would love to stay here with you, but I have to go back. I don’t want this to be hard on you, or me.”
“You don’t have to go. You know you don’t have to.”
“You don’t understand, Ethan. I can’t tell you why, but all you need to know is that it’s not your fault as to why I’m leaving.”
“So… When are you leaving?”
The following morning, I walked to her house for the last time. We stood in her bedroom, holding each other for what it seems like forever. I never wanted to let her go, but I knew I had to. I drove her to the airport, dreading the moment that I had to let her go. My heart felt like it started to break as we neared the airport. Now, I’m sitting in one of the waiting areas, watching her plane leave. I’m trying to calm myself down and not lose it. I run to my car, in fear of making a total fool of myself in front of a load of people I’ve never seen before. Finally, I reach my car, and let it all out. I cry until I feel like I’m going to cough up my lungs. It’s over now. She’s gone, and not coming back.
A week later, I’m still trying to hold myself together, and not have a mental breakdown. I decide to turn the news on to calm my nerves (don’t ask me why the news, but hey). All of a sudden I see a warning, saying “Have You Seen This Woman?” with a picture of Sinead in Moscow. The news says that she’s been suspected of stealing highly classified and secure weaponry, the disappearing without a trace. How could this happen? Why did she lie to me about moving to the states? Come to think of it, she never spoke of living in the states at any point of time, or about any of her family.
Suddenly, a knock came rapping at my door. Still in shock mode, I open the door.
“Sinead?” I say, stunned. There she is, standing right in front of me.
“Hey love! I told you I was coming back.” She says, and kisses my cheek. She walks in my house and sits on the sofa in my living room.
“What the hell are you doing here?!” I say and shut the door. “You’re all over the news! Is it true that you’ve stolen weapons from god knows where?”
“Well… All right, I think it would be a good idea to start explaining things…”
“Ya think?” I cross my arms.
“Ok… you won’t believe me at first, but I’m not exactly… human.” I stand there, and just look at her.
“... Get out.”
“No! Ethan! Just let me explain.” She takes a deep breath. “All right, well I’m not human. Just wait! I’m not human, I’m alien. I come from the planet Gallifrey, and well, I’m a Time Lord. I traveled back to Earth a few years ago to help the Irish government with some alien type thing, it’s kind of hard to explain, buuut somehow the Russian government found out about me, tracked me down, took away my most helpful weapon- actually, it’s not really a weapon, but more of a helpful… toy thing that I always have with-“
“Yeah… Anyways long story short, I escaped from Russia and returned here. Then I met you… And you were the most important thing that came into my life, and I have no idea what I’d do without you now… I had to leave because I have other work to do away from Earth, and I needed my quote-unquote weapon to do this. That’s why I’m all over the news, and why everyone’s saying that I’ve stolen precious whatever from the Russian government, blah, blah, blah, and now I’m back here for you.”
“Wait, what do you mean you’re back here for me?”
“I want you to come on this insane traveling trip I’m on to different planets. I don’t want you to stay here, watching life go by in an instant. I don’t want you to live alone with a broken heart because I’ve left. I want you to come with me, Ethan.” She stands, and takes my hands. “So what do you say? Do you want to run away with me into space and through time?”
“Under one condition.” I finally say.
So this is the end of my story on Earth. I marry a Time Lord, jump into her Time And Relative Dimension In Space traveling thing, and travel through space and time, doing whatever help we can. Man, I never expected my life to turn into such a roller coaster ride.
