Discrimmination of the Mind

When you hear about discrimmination what comes to your mind. Perhaps you think about racism or religeon. What about the smaller stuff? Like kids with learning disabilities. There are thousands of kids all over the country who have learning disabilities like ADD or dyslexia. Most of those kids  have IEPs, which put them at the level that is best for them. In reality, its just a bunch of garbage! What they really do is put you at the level they WANT you to be at. IEP casemangers all over put kids in low level classes just because you have a learning disability. Whether you have a major or minor disability your treated the same. However that doesn't mean were dumb. We just feel that way because of how we are treated. So is there really a difference between treating some different because of their race and treating some with a disability. I know the IEP sounds good on paper but a lot kids hide there feelings. I know this because I have an IEP myself and it has taken and emotional toll on me. I have been through a lot in life and they way my IEP treats is no different then getting called names by other student. In fact its worse because everyone who gets put in these classes get made fun of. Whats worse the IEP doesnt event tell you what getting into.

I go to a public highschool in New Jersey and I have and IEP. This is my first year in a public school and I was really physched too be going. I met with my case manager in August and we disscussed my classes. I told her specifly I want to be in all regular classes and she said I would. In reality she twisted my words because the school considers foundations level a regular ed class. We both know what I ment and now I've been upset all year because of this. I haven't felt this bad in a long time and I know there is nothing I can do because my case manager is a dictator. If I try to do anything I'll be in the same  place next year. All there is to do is to stay trapped in the box my IEP has locked me in.

Is there someone else you can talk to about this, if the case manager isn't being helpful? Maybe you could talk to some of your current teachers, see if there is something you can do to show your ability to handle regular classes... like recieving a b or above in all your current classes. Or is there a school counselor who may be of more help?
