Attitudinal issues regarding abortion

The issue of abortion in the United States has been one that has courted controversy and created a public, political, and moral divide. The Social Foundations of Public Issues (2006) Abortion has been a major issue in the United States, and many people have been reluctant to either change the situation or keep it. People view abortion in many different ways some are strongly against it and some agree with abortion. In this essay, I'm going to explain the attitudinal issues regarding abortion.  Attitudinal means to, based on, or showing a person's opinions and feelings. The right to life is a universal moral principle that stands at the foundation of the concept of human rights.

In history abortion has existed in some form or content. The topic of abortion will always raise some questioning about the welfare of the fetus. Colonial America followed English Common Law. It stated that abortion was a felony after ‘quickening’ (18 to 20 weeks). Abortion was common during this time but was kept secret due to the strict laws against unmarried sexual activity. The Social Foundations of Public Issues (2006) Now in the United States abortion is all based on the women choice on whether she wants to partake in the procedure.

When it comes to abortion women with more education and better jobs, usually agree with abortion. Men are most likely to think abortion is acceptable than females. There is two choices it’s either your prolife or prochoice. Pro-choice disputes argue that the pregnant woman has the right to abortion. It is her choice and nobody else can prevent it. Pro-life disputes are supported by the religious doctrine. Most religions including Christianity and Catholicism consider that a fetus is a human life. To perform abortion means to commit suicide. The Father Stephen Toracco who is a Catholic priest argues that the right to abortion can be given only those women who are threatened to die due to terrible complications such as cancer or radiation. Religious people are more sustain to disagree and are the mains one's outside abortion clinics protesting and trying to get patients to reconsider. Psalm 139 describes the development of the unborn baby: "For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body." SPUC (n.d.)

There are many different types of abortions like induced abortion, Spontaneous abortion, elective abortion and therapeutic abortion. Induced abortion is a therapeutic abortion which requires surgery or some particular medical drugs. Spontaneous abortion refers to miscarriage which occurs within first 20 weeks of the pregnancy. The reasons may be different: trauma, on purpose or on accident. Elective abortion denoted abortion which is performed for any other reason including the woman’s unwillingness to have a baby or some economic or social reasons. Therapeutic abortion which stands for the termination of pregnancy to prevent some disease or disorder of woman’s health which arose during the pregnancy and threatened the life of the woman. The investigation, which was released Oct. 6, suggests that out of the 196 countries in the world, only six do not allow women to have an abortion under any circumstance — even if the procedure would save her life. Calderone (2015) Chile, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and Nicaragua are some countries that do not allow abortion.

In conclusion, abortion is a raised issue in the United States and other countries. Many people have a different outlook on abortion and no one just has one answer. You are either pro-life or pro-choice, and each has its pros and cons. Women worldwide have many different reasons for not keeping their baby from rape, not being ready to have a child and not being financially stable enough for a child. Many people believe if you laid down and made the baby then you should be responsible for keeping it. Some belief women should be able to make her decisions about her body, and it is her right to choose.  The examples I have listed have shown us why we should avoid abortion every child deserve a chance at life.
