I should have been dead and forgotten by now. I should have been six feet under by now, if not for a stroke of luck. Then who would tell this tale? Oh.. perhaps ghosts tell tales. Ofcourse dead men don’t tell tales!

Just last week, in this month of March, 2007. I went shopping in a shopping mall in a busy district in my hometown. While I was in the shop, I ran into a female friend I had lost contact with for a long time. I was so excited seeing this friend because we had lost contact for a long time. We talked about so many things and exchanged our new contact details in a hurry and promised to keep in touch with each other, before we parted.

When I came out of the mall, I was still thinking of the friend I had met, such that I lost concentration of the present moment. I was excited!

As I was walking across the major street while still engaged in my thoughts, in my attempt to get across to the other side of the road, I had not looked out for any oncoming vehicle in my attempt to get to the bus station. I was almost knocked down by an oncoming motorbyke, but it missed me, and before I knew what was happening, I had also narrowly missed being hit by an oncoming bus at top speed! All because I was thinking and my heart was somewhere else while I was getting across a major road.
I should have been dead by now, but I am happy I am still alive to tell this tale.

Sometimes ago too, while I was taking a bus to some part of town, the vehicle I was in almost knocked down a young lady. The young lady was busy operating her mobile phone to the extent that she forgot she was crossing a major street. She would have been knocked down at the center of the road, if the driver had not applied his brakes fast and soon enough!

I noticed that it is a common sight for youths to be occupied with multiple thoughts while crossing a major street such that they loose concentration. This is a very dangerous habit.

If we don’t learn to cope now, we may have to finish our thoughts in the grave, six feet under..
