“I have to leave now, and when I do, I want you to go. I don’t want you to see me like this.” He spoke, inquiring a sense of calamity. Her face, pale and confused, desperately searched for reason within his. She found no such convenience.  “Why? Why must you go now?” Her voice was high and demanding, yet he gave no response to this. The time had come for him to depart from this world and the next, his duty fulfilled, his task complete. He had provided her with what she had so readily avoided. He gave more than he thought imaginable, layers of his soul he didn’t know existed before encountering her. To give so much of one’s self as he had, with no sense of belonging from whom he cherished, was unfathomable. She was guilty of her crime, and he knew what had to be done. Fate, if there was such, had played its hand not in his favor.  He had to leave, to end the restless pit inside of him that tore away at his core. That fateful day always so hauntingly approached his memory, ready to begin its havoc within himself. “I gave you what I was capable of giving, myself, my life, my soul. These things mattered not to you.  I must leave… You found your other, and he was not me. I cannot stay and let these memories torment me any longer.” His face stood still, emotionless.  She understood, she knew inside herself sadly that this was of her own doing.  The cosmos above played their own tune, lighting the sky in a sense of regret for her eyes to reflect upon.  He knew, at this moment, at this fragmented slice of time that would forever stay embellished within him, that he could not look back.  Taking a step forward, his gaze lowered. He started for a new path.
