I'm Black! That's what I was born that's what I'll always be... BUT I'm also JENNIFER... my personality doesn't have a color... not white, black, brown, yellow... it's just my personality.

Someday, I hope, maybe we'll see each other the way Christ sees us.

"In Christ, there is no difference between Jew and Greek, slave and free person, male and female. You are all the same in Christ Jesus" - Galations 3:28

I tend to be an outcast to my own race
I have screamo on my ipod next to Lil' Wayne.
Still Expected to complain
About our oppression and pain
And considered unappreciative of the efforts put forth to gain
RESPECT
POWER
A VOICE
For "us"

I'm called confused
And Named a sale-out.
I listen to Carrie Underwood
So I've obviously forgotten what being blacks about.

I identify more with one culture,
But I must lack Identity
Accepted anywhere, but in my own skin
Am I not free to me?

"White girl" with a ghetto streak
Black girl with no roots

My mother puts me in the mirror
To stare at my reflection.
In hope of what?
I'll "wake up" and find direction?

I see...
What King fought for,
His very dream
A connection between the races
Not separated by the color of our faces
Or designated, on the bus, in the restaurants & bathrooms
To our desperately unequal different places.

My best friend is a white girl with blue-green eyes
Her husband is Mexican with brown eyes

I have not forgotten the past lies
or ignored our histories cries
But nor will I ever sit still
As the very thing my savior created me for dies.

Stand behind me in the mirror
Try to see what I see
As I tell you what it's like to be an "oreo"
For those of you who aren't like me.
