Is it so wrong to be different?

I wonder.

And, I can't help but wonder

that with these eyes and this nose,

my mouth… with lines and the scars

that fill my face and make me different,

I wonder what it means to be deformed?

Am I de-formed in the sense

that I'm underdeveloped like the doctors say-

a banausic face rather than an inspired one-

doomed to be an oddity of a man?

Forever plagued with the 'uh, oh, whoa's'

that people usher forth in reaction to my acquaintance?

Why vilipend something that is unique

by barraging me with disparaging remarks?

I am endemic: a one man's land.

I am a new breed, a new species.

I wonder that I am none other than a wonder.
