This is dedicated

To all the “ones”

In my life.

To all the ones

Who said, “I can’t.”

I say, “I can.”

To all the ones

Who said, “Don’t.”

I say, “I won’t…

Listen to the unkind words

Gushing out of your

Unbarred mouth.”

You’re not me.

Just let me be

Whoever I want

To be.

If I want to fly

Like a beautiful butterfly-

An insect long trapped

In the cocoon

Of your threatening presence-

Cheer me on,

Till I reach new heights

And find home

At the moon.

And if I want to be

Little old me,

Shower me with embraces

Of pure glee.

Why can’t you be

My fan,

Instead of being

My biggest critic-

Knowing my weak spots

And reviewing me

Where it hurts the most?

 Why can’t you be

My believer,

Instead of being

My biggest doubter-

Forever questioning

The ways of my life?

Why can’t you be

All that I need you to be?

Think about that

Before you attempt

To reenter my life.
