Shot From the Past
I admired the weathered skin of the wicked man.
So ill advised I was, for he could hardly stand.
In years past, he had been a veteran.
Iwo survivor, there simply isn't a better man.
Struggled as a youth, couldn't afford college tuition.
Hit the change-up, he played the infanry position.
Put his life down, willing to pay death a sacrifice.
Pain endured, horror heard. A simple thanks won't suffice.
He loves the Corps, for he lived it.
Semper Fidelis, you name it he did it.
Sore back, for the world he carried.
Thoughts sad, from the friends he'd burried.
Every sunday he wakes, and heads to the alter.
He reflects the past, reassures so he wont falter.
Lost in my ignorance, of things I've never done.
Starring at a person, who'd chose to work for fun.
This man is my hero, and he doesn't have a clue.
I want to follow his steps, things I'm willing to do.
He lives life how it's supposed to be.
Aged wine, love for family is his remedy.
Peace through words, but kills with a five five six.
He has your back, his wisdom like tape.. it sticks.
If I ever have the chance just once, to say it out loud.
I'll let him know I'm thankful, God Bless, and I'm Proud.
