The wind whipping through my mane
My hoofs pounding on the ground.
The smell of fresh fallen rain,
My true love of freedom, found.

But then comes a day
Where I am chased by men.
They throw ropes every which way
Till on the ground, I am lain.

I put up a tough fight
But they lead me away
Their ropes held tight,
My freedom slowly leaving with each passing day.

We finally reach their camp
Where there are others captured like me.
Everything is so dank and damp
For my freedom is all I wish to see.

They use their whips
They make me run
With water only in sweet little sips
Under the heat of the blaring sun.

Finally a little girl comes
With soft blue eyes
And a touch like the first year’s sun.
To my great surprise, she undoes my ties.

She unlatches the door
And I calmly follow her out.
I want to take off and soar,
But her kindness and love gives me a different route.

I let her climb up onto my back,
She grabs my mane and we go,
Running wild with the pack
My freedom back and my new love, the girl, in tow.
