Zeus (the ruler of the gods) was probably the most powerful of all the gods. He’s weapon of choice was a lightning bolt. Long ago the people would believe that if lightning were to strike Zeus was present. Zeus’s father, kronos, was the king of the titans and knew that someday he would be killed by one of his sons just as he killed his own father, so he decided to eat his children when they were first born. But when his sixth child was born, his wife (rhea) tricked him and made him eat a rock instead of Zeus. For years Zeus was hidden in a cave. But when Zeus attained a certain age he slipped a potion in his father’s whine which caused him to through up his children. Then Zeus led his brothers and sisters to battle against kronos and the titans. Zeus and his brothers and sisters won the battle and Zeus became the ruler of the gods.

Hera was Zeus’s wife and the goddess of weddings and marriage. She was very jealous of all of Zeus’s other affairs including most other woman.

Poseidon was Zeus’s brother and the god of the seas. His wife was Amphitrite, granddaughter of the titan Oceanus. But at one point he desired Demeter, goddess of corn, wheat, and the harvest.

Hades is the brother of Zeus and Poseidon which why He is the ruler of the underworld. The reason why he is the ruler of the underworld is because he had a draw against his brothers and got the worst pick. He is a very greedy god and is also known to the world as the god of wealth because of his helmet that can make him invisible. His wife was Persephone. He also may be the ruler of death but the god who is death is named Thanatos (now know to the world as death or the grim riper).

Aphrodite was the goddess of love, desire, and beauty. She was known to be the most beautiful of all of the goddesses and she was the wife of Hephaestus.
