A quick ride on the roller-coaster. This was useful for me at the time, now I'm OK with sharing it.

I'm alone now, my own fault - I told you to go.

We could have been forever, but now we'll never know.

Never quite believed in the seven year itch,

Always knew love wasn't activated with a switch.

You couldn't cope with my family,

Rough and working class - but not definitive of me.

Don't like how often I changed career,

I've been a nurse nearly four years.

Caring for the sick and elderly pays in ways other than in money.

Third and finally,

The main thing between you and me,

The thing I thought you understood:

My early start at Fatherhood,

After seven years you really oughta

Have come to terms with my only daughter.

That straw broke this camel's heart,

Now I will have to restart.

~

I'm alone now, my own fault - but I'm gonna be okay.

The girl that means the most to me is coming after school today.

This is more about you, though,

But these words you'll never know.

You'll never find your Mr Perfect,

I hope you think the search is worth it.

You value money over time,

Impatience over loyalty,

Never tried keeping you in line,

Nor cheated - though you did on me.

I never criticised your choice of friends,

Nor bad mouthed your family,

Their love and support for you just felt alien to me.

We are from separate worlds,

Perhaps it wasn't meant to be.

~

I'm alone now, my own fault - but someone is out there for me.

Pedro...awesome write...this issue in todays world has become more oft than naught. There are the givers and the takers, obviously you are a giver, but you are the winner, as your daughter is still in your life...the poisoned relationship could have been a " buzzkill".
Enjoy life as it is your only ride on the Carousel of Life...the rollercoaster always made me nauseous !
Thanks for the share.
