The First Love

We were wonderful together,

But now I’m free,

And even though I still love you,

You and I will never be.

You were my first love,

You were everything to me,

But now that I’m just me again,

There’s so much more I can see.

Love don’t take things the wrong way,

You’re still a friend of mine,

But now that I am on my own,

I’m glad we don’t intertwine.

Those nights when I am on my own,

When without you I’m so empty,

I realize in the back of my mind,

We shouldn’t be a ‘we’.

So love I bid you goodbye,

 I’ll see you again someday.

In a couple months we’ll be friends again,

And I’ll be happy saying hey.
