I watch old videos of nuclear tests because they remind me of something indescribable.

Do

?

Six.

?

Not

?

Fiver.

?

Know

?

Four.

?

If

?

Three.

?

I

?

Two.

?

One.

Can.

?

?

And all the people are made

Made, made of vapor.

Souls of steam

in their effervescent hearts.

Will, will, will not. I refuse. I refuse what is real.

I accept only what is in the palm of your hand.

For that is the truth.

Undeniable.

And you believe. But believe not in me.

Believe not in my dreams.

For they are as flawed as I.

As flawed as I make them.

Flawed as I make myself.

False!

False!

O lies, thy children of lying lips.

How they torment me so.

Haunt, haunt.

Their footfalls outside my door.

Eyes searching too deep, too deep

into myself.

It is now 30 seconds until zero time.

Pull on goggles or turn away.

Do not remove goggles or face burst until ten seconds after

First Light

First Light.

Minus fifteen seconds

And I see the stones falling, cast by errant hands.

Minus ten seconds.

For you believe

Niner.

And

Eight.

I

Seven.
