The earth
was many things
that fated evening.
It was haloed
iridescently.
It was at once pure and corrupt.
And it burned
like an old theater set fire.
All the curtains set to flame
and velvet ropes no longing restricting in their ashes.
No play upon the stage
the only music being drawn from the tortured seams of wood
as all crumbles
into the haze
of night.
