Free Born

If we need a place to hide ourselves away, we will ask.
Don’t demand that we hide with you; let us go.
We are free born.
Let us soar in the sky. Let us hold the sun in the palms
Of our hands and feel the warmth.
You are so cold, and brittle, and coarse.
Embrace us and let us not decay in your ignorance, and pray:
That we stay.
But don’t demand.
We cannot contend with the way you are;
This is the way we are.
