Late night, streets once filled with crowds
Are empty, only filled with footsteps now
And you and I sit together face to face
Over coffee at your favorite place.
Why must I always sink myself
Into this conversation?
I promise no unfair tactics
At least for the duration.

Neon lights still buzz in the dark
And glow in rain puddles, show up so stark
It’s half past one and we ought to go
But the talk’s so good, can’t stop the flow
Should I restrain this discussion
To an idea exchange?
Is it enough that as a goal
We not seem so strange?

Well this is my side - Truth of the universe
That hangs the planets and lifts every curse
Well this is my side: a fallible man
Defending a Power so that you’d understand.

We walk back to the car in the lot
The summer night’s still feeling hot
I notice the rain on the hood
I did the best that I could.
What is the fear that I have,
This prayer that I plead?
I should know that it’s not my fight
I just planted the seed.

Well this is my side - Truth of the universe
That hangs the planets and lifts every curse
Well this is my side: a fallible man
Defending a Power so that you’d understand.
