The title says it all - the sadness of war...yet there is comfort in knowing that God is always there with us.

“Oh God, please let me live through this…
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil…
Don’t leave me, Lord!”
At the front the bullets screamed
The bombs were falling, it was no dream
The bodies piled up – human bricks
And rain would cause the mud to stick.
The visibility was dead
With scenes of death all through my head
I had no choice that point but fight
A savage ruthless fearing light
But light was what I needed
I could not be defeated
The charge would come, I’d return
The salvo that I’d barely earn
And in the moment
When the cloud breaks
When the sun shines
When the earth quakes
When my mind sees
That You’re with me
God save me
From this insanity.
The sergeant, barking orders
To go invade their borders
What was I fighting for?
I lost sense of the war.
Was it freedom? Was it fame?
Was it money? Down the drain
If I end up in a bag here
If I lose to deadly fear.
Shrapnel leg, I lost the drive
In me to go on and survive
I look to God, He’s the one
Who’ll keep me from the sun.
And at the moment
When the gun shoots
When the skin tears
When the voice mutes
When my mind sees
That You’re with me
God save me
From this insanity.
