Attempts to leave the nest fail time and time again but still the open skies call.

First the grated knife

sliced our umbilical union

I stumbled blind from

your guiding wing

Escaping the bosom

of selfish caution

I then let the sharp blade

of adulthood wound me further

Hurt and with

feathered span unfurled

I broke my beak

on pebbles of inexperience

My innate calling

to capture the skies

My guiding voice

a sound reminiscent of you

This eagle will fly

soar the open heavens

My mind free

the world my range
