The smell, etches colour

across the absorbent canvass of my memory

Nauseous, I stumble out of the dark

let the street lights bathe my tempered brow

Shadows remain animated

the itch of fear remains unscratched

My soul for a taxi,

yet only torn paper travels the dead street

I feel I could chew my excited heart

as it rattles my nervous teeth

I start to run

yet know I am snared within his cruel dream

To tease my life

his breath expires the cities power

Solids begin to dissolve

a wash of capture drowns me

My legs still try to run

his nightmare fills my lungs

My heart taps out

a last frantic s.o.s.

I feel a snap, in my chilled eyes

a hinge to reality opens

A breeze of safety

warms me like a mothers touch

I embrace the circling wind

content to hold her forever
