I recall our first meeting

over birthday and cake

I must have been five

and wished for such a friend

His internal fluff

no longer strong

My cuddles

have left him weak

Yet his eyes

smile love

His toy heart

loud and alive

Now twenty four years later

he still sits on my bed

If he could talk

my history would alarm me

I know he retains

things I have forgotten

Perhaps by choice

heck I need to fight the world

My tears must be soaked

into his balding fur

He has heard my anger

felt my disgust

Yet not once

has he judged me wrong

His warmth and wisdom

still help me smile

I repaired the stitching

in his left eye

I hope amongst other teddies

he mentions me

He sits and waits

on my pale pink pillow

I notice his dark eyes

widen upon my return

I kiss his black nose

whisper in his wide ear

Reminding him

he will forever be part of my life
