This was for a school assignment. The assignment was to criticize society using an ordinary object. This was the first poem I've ever tried "all out".

Tying the Knot

The melting candle burns slowly

in the hut of the ropemaker.

Finding two strands of flax,

But losing her in the cracks.

Instead he uses a strand of leather,

bringing both together.

The cold bites his rough fingers

as he twists the two on the nippers.

A few bumps along the way,

incompatible to this day.

Forcing each to bend jointly,

the ropemaker continues arrogantly.

As he finishes the segment of rope,

he ties a knot joining the two in hope.

So time went on, many journeys taken.

But sooner or later, each strand will be shaken,

Hard at work they will be separated.

Forever broken, and unspoken.
