Voiceless, Those That Are Not

©2010 PocketxFullxOfxDreams

There is no reason to listen,
Feel free to make that choice;
There is no reason to listen,
To those without a voice.

A painter of landscapes,
A waitress at an inn,
A man singing about escape,
A child just about to begin.

A mother of three,
A father of twins too,
A musician who sets free;
Is there anyone who knew?

An accountant in a bank,
An engineer of ships;
Whose own ship sank,
Before she moved her lips.

A pastor of a flock,
A farmer working with dairy,
A sewer of frocks,
A girl dreaming of a fairy.

Who shall never fall in love,
And never dream a dream;
Who shall never see a dove,
Nor ever a single sunbeam.

Perhaps I should write a requiem,
For those who had no chance,
For those cut off exordium,
Who never got their dance.

But who would read a ballad,
Written for the dead?
Who would read a ballad,
Written by me in their stead?

No hope for the voiceless,
Cut off before their first cry;
Because they are noiseless,
For technicality:  sentenced to die.
