So many times I have hung my head and I have cried,
I would walk around smiling but inside I had died.
I reached out my hands for my so-called friends,
But they only mislead me time and time again.
I was on a path of destruction so blind I could not see,
That’s when I heard a gentle voice whisper softly to me.
You have tried everything else now get down on your knees,
Jesus died on the cross so that we all can be free.
He is always there when you are in need of someone,
So lift your eyes to where your blessings come from.
I’ve made mistakes and I’ve done my share of wrong,
I believed in god but my faith was not strong.
I was a sinner and sinners are filled with doubt,
How can GOD know it is me, when so many others are crying out?
So I shouldered up my burdens prepared to carry them alone,
Because GODs infinite wisdom and love to me were still unknown.
When I was at my lowest, when despair consumed all my time,
I could clearly hear these words being spoken to my mind.
Everything you have tried, why not get down on your knees,
Don’t you know that Jesus died so that we all could be free?
He said he would be with you forever and you will always need someone,
So why not lift your eyes to where your blessings come from?
At last, I understood the meaning that was intended from the start,
These words were not meant to fill my head, they were meant to fill my heart.
And a peacefulness came over me that I never knew before,
I had finally found the key I needed only to open the door.
This time I fell upon my knees and unto the LORD I did pray,
Because of his grace and mercy I was spared yet another day.
I thank GOD for lifting my head up, I walk proud and upright,
I want the world to see the change in me; he has given me his light.
Now I am spreading his word, get down upon your knees,
Jesus made the greatest sacrifice of all, so that we all could be free.
His precious blood will wash your sins away, and save your soul,
Don’t you think it is time that you came in from the cold?
He will be your rock in times of frustration and sorrow,
He will be the hope that gets you to and through tomorrow.
He will shield you from harm, and help you overcome your fears,
And he is better than Kleenex at drying your tears.
If you are in need of a friend then he is the one,
So why not lift your eyes to where your blessings come from.
