its a beautiful day out

but colours she cant see

her grey days

turn to dark nights

and no colour visits her

swollen eyes

sadness...

its the only colour she knows

it cascades her mind

and colours the images that dwell there

in her mind...

rivers are the colour of flowing blood

and the lillies that upon the river float

emit the colour of bruises...

the beauty of the morning dew

she sees not,

instead she shudders from the cold of its touch

the warmth of the sunrise

she feels not,

instead she escapes the harshness of its light

and the joy

that is seen in a blossoming rose

she sees not,

instead she fears the sharpness of its thorns...

for her life has no beauty,

no warmth,

no joy...

only the thunder of an angry voice

a furious voice,

a voice furious at the inabilities of its owner

a voice accompanied by a hard slap

a bone crunching kick

a fighter's attack

on a helpless soul

she contemplates leaving but never does

cos this is the only life she knows

a life of a woman who cooks, cleans and washes by day

to be beaten by night

a life into which she was born

and a life out of which...

she will surely die

and sadly, this is the only life she knows

its a beautiful day out

but colours she cannot see

her grey days turn to dark nights

and no colour visits

her painfully blinded eyes...
